Press breakers

1-4—Loops

  • Starts in a 1-4 set up with 2 looping underneath to the weak side.

  • 4 & 5 turn to set a staggered double screen for 1 to loop over the top to the strong side and receive the pass from 3.

  • If 3 cannot inbound to 1, 4 & 5 cut to the ball after screening.

Circle

  • 3 players (your press breakers) will begin running in a circle before the ball is handed to the inbounder.

  • When 1 breaks, then 2 & 3 will break to open space away from 1 (designating a player to break first generally works the best).

1-4—Break

  • This is a great entry to break man pressure for an easy lay-up, especially if the defense is forced to try and gamble for a steal.

  • 1 & 2 start on the elbow, while 4 & 5 start back at half court.

  • When the inbounder is handed the ball, 1, 4 & 5 all break forward towards the baseline with 3 looking to hit 4.

  • After the ball is inbounded, 2 sets a down screen for 1 to streak down the court with 4 looking to hit 1 on the break.

  • 2, 4 & 5 sprint down court to fill lanes & spacing.

Loyola Slips

  • 1 & 2 turn to screen up for 4.

  • 4 rejects the screen and cuts to the weak side.

  • 5 sprints up court towards the center of the floor.

  • 1 & 2 turn off their screens and slip towards the ball (1 cuts to the strong side and 2 to the weak side).

Middle Go

  • 4 & 5 sprint from half court towards the baseline to pull up their defenders.

  • 2 turns to set a screen for 1 to flash towards the baseline.

  • After screening, 2 sprints up court on a “go” to receive the long pass from 3.

Diamond—X-Go

  • 1 sprints at 4 and cuts over the top to the strong side corner.

  • 2 sprints at 4 and cuts over the top to the weak side corner.

  • 5 sprints down at 4 to pull his defender, and 4 sprints up court on a “go” to catch the long pass from 3.

go stick

  • Great entry if the other team is denying and looking for a steal before fouling at the end of a game.

  • All 5 players will line up out of bounds below the baseline.

  • Everyone runs a “Go” route except for your PG or player you want shooting free throws to seal it - that player runs a “comeback”

  • If it is a man press and the defense does not initially foul, then the inbounder (3) will clear out keeping his eyes back in case his man goes to trap 1.

diamond—Scissors

  • 4 turns to set a screen for 1 to cut over the top to the strong side wing.

  • If 3 cannot inbound it to 1, 4 turns to set another screen for 2 to cut to the opposite wing. After screening, 4 dives to the free throw line.

  • 3 can hit 2 or 4 as a last resort.

baseline boomerang

  • 1 & 2 start stacked above the free throw line.

  • 1 cuts below the baseline to receive the pass from 3 (be sure 1 is out of bounds completely before passing).

  • 3 steps in to receive the pass-back from 1. 2 cutting to the opposite wing and 4 diving to the free throw line are the secondary options.

  • Upon receiving the entry, 3 dribbles to occupy the middle.

  • 1 cuts over top to fill the sideline.

Box—STS

  • Starts in a box alignment with the guards in opposite corners and the bigs in opposite corners.

  • 1 sets a diagonal screen for 2 to cut to the wing as 5 drifts to the front court.

  • 4 turns and sets a screen for 1 to cut to the strong side wing.

  • After screening for 1, 4 dives to the center of the lane as the safety valve.
